After a six-year hiatus, My Name Is Ann returns to the music scene with a new single. FALLING DOWN is a bold confession led by a massive, minimalist rhythm. MNIANN infuses it with vocals supported by dense bass lines, ubiquitous synths and dark piano harmonies.
The story of the song centers around a feeling one can experience when someone lures them in with their perfection and power, already being aware that this pretend behaviour will start collapsing at any moment.
"I started writing this piece in LA some years ago, right before my first American tour of MNIANN, when I still didn’t have an idea who and what it was about. I myself didn’t understand the deeper message in this piece. The story in the song manifested into reality two months later, true to the last detail I had written about. I sometimes feel that I can peek into the future thanks to music. Those sort of pieces then become self-fulfilling prophecies to an extent, and they offer me the key to the kind of reality that’s just around a corner. It often scares me, because I find out what I don’t want to hear and to be honest, sometimes I’d rather be surprised," laughs the musician, adding with a more serious tone: "Actually, with this song, what I had on my mind was – don’t be afraid to admit to your vulnerability, imperfection, insecurities, or weaknesses. Pretending to be balanced and perfect at all costs will eat us alive in the end.
